Using Depth of Field (DOF) in 3D Computer Graphics

Setting the depth of field (DOF) is a fundamental part of photography. Modern 3D computer graphics applications like DAZ Studio have virtual cameras that can be used in a similar way. You can download a PDF of a depth of field mini-tutorial on how to set the depth of field in DAZ Studio. You can compare two images that are identical expect for the f/stop setting, which affects the depth of field. Notice how the focus on the background changes. As well, the narrower depth of field (the smaller f/stop) also throws the character’s hair, neck and shoulders out of focus.
